‘Ready, steady, cook’ donation to Heart of England charity

It could be ready, steady, cook for a local charity thanks to the generosity of a Warwickshire developer.

Rainier Developments, based in Henley-in-Arden , recently bought an office building in Coventry which came complete with an industrial kitchen and canteen.

The firm is currently refurbishing the 30,000 sq ft building in Brindle Avenue, Binley, and is stripping out the kitchen before marketing the complex.

But rather than scrap the culinary equipment, it has turned to the Heart of England Community Foundation to find it a new home.

Rainier managing director Richard Mees said:

“The equipment is relatively modern and is in really good condition so we did not want to strip it out before seeing if it could have a use which would help the community.

“We have worked closely with local businessman Joe Elliott elsewhere in the city and he recommended we contact the Foundation as they have great links with charities across the region.

“They have set the wheels in motion and hopefully now it will go to a good home where it can be of real use.”

Tina Costello, Chief Executive of the Heart of England Community Foundation, said two or three local charities had been earmarked as possible recipients.

She said: “This is a really kind gesture from Rainier, and we are delighted to help. We have really strong links with the business community in Coventry and Warwickshire and right across the West Midlands so it is really rewarding when they come to us with matters like this.

“While it is not really what we do – we certainly know organisations who would be very grateful recipients of this sort of equipment so we will certainly be finding a very good home for it all.”

Rainier Developments is the company creating a private housing scheme on the site of Elliotts Car Accessories on the corner of London Road and Gulson Road – which has been home to the automotive business since the 1920s.

Around 167 private sale apartments – mostly one and two bedroomed – are to be created in two buildings which will range from three to 16 storeys designed to create a gateway to the ring road and city centre.
